Which Kitchen Appliance is the Most Important?

7th Dec 2014

The kitchen is one of the most used and important rooms in our homes. It allows us to not only cook meals for ourselves and our family, but it also creates a place for social gathering and happiness. There are also many appliances in our kitchens, stoves, refrigerators, microwaves, and dishwashers. Which one of these appliances is the most important in your home? Everyone will have a different answer because we all have different opinions, but to me, I think the stove is the most important appliance in the kitchen.

When I was asked to make this decision it took much thinking and debate in mind to choose between the stove and the refrigerator. These two appliances seem like the most important in my mind, lets break down why.

The job of the refrigerator is to keep our perishable foods cold in order for them to last longer. We also use it to keep our drinks cold because they taste better cold, rather than room temperature. I am not sure how I would function without a refrigerator, but if I had to, I could. People used to live without refrigerators every day before it was ever invented, and they seemed to do just fine without one. This is the reason I chose the stove; humans have always needed some type of heating device to cook foods, even way back before stoves were ever invented.

The stove is my choice of the most important appliance in the kitchen, and for good reason. Think back to early times when humans had to find a way to heat their foods in order to cook it, but there was no such thing as an oven. What did they do? They built fires and used sticks to hold their food above the fire, slowly turning it to evenly cook whatever it was they were eating. So my reasoning to why I chose the oven over the refrigerator is because human nature has always needed some type of heat to cook their foods before they consumed it. Refrigeration is only a privilege really and not a necessity.
