What To Do With Those Socks With Missing Mates

24th Feb 2015

Every one of us has lost a sock at some point in our lives. It seems like our socks just want to get away from us and will use any opportunity (i.e. the washer and dryer) to do this. So what do you do when you have a sock that has lost its mate? Well you could throw it away (wasteful!). Or you could just have an uneven number of socks (scandalous!). Or you could try some of these great and easy ideas!

  • Use them as drink cozies. Start by cutting off the bottom of the sock right above the heel. Then use these "drink cozies" to put over water bottles, sippy cups, etc. It will soak up the wetness from the bottle. And the best part is that you can use these for hot or cold drinks!
  • Make chalk board erasers! Socks make great erasers and are very easy for kids or adults to use. And when the sock gets really dirty, just toss in the washing machine!
  • Use them as dusting mitts! Socks are great for dusting. Just slip the sock over your hand, spray a little Pledge on them and go to work! And again, they are super easy to clean when you are done!
  • Use them to protect your shoes when you travel. Slip your shoes into the socks to keep dirt from getting on the rest of your things!
  • Use them as packing material. Save a bunch of socks and use them to help pack fragile items.
  • Use them to make heating pads for aches and pains. Fill a sock with rice and tie up the end. Then pop that in the microwave for a minute and viola! Instant heating pad! Great for sore muscles! Just make sure you check on the sock every 20 seconds or so in the microwave. They can get really hot really fast!
  • And the obvious one make some sock puppets! Do not underestimate how much fun sock puppets can be! Kids (and let's be real, adults as well) love sock puppets! Make it a fun craft project to do with your kids. Or if you do not have kids, make a bunch for your pets. Dogs will love to chew on them. And cats will love to bat them around on a string!

So there you have it! Several great and simple ideas for using up socks that have no mate!
