29th Jun 2015

A good sauce can turn a so-so cookout into a meal you won't soon forget. But what does it take to make a great sauce? Well everyone has their own tastes but here's a recipe that will get you started.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 small yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups ketchup
  • 1/3 cup molasses
  • 1/3 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Direction

  1. Melt butter in medium saucepan over medium heat. Add onion and cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes. Add garlic and cook for an additional 2 minutes

  2. Add ketchup, vinegar, molasses, mustard, chili powder, brown sugar, black pepper, and cayenne pepper and stir to combine. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer until slightly thickened, about 30 minutes. Stir often.

  3. Transfer sauce to the jar of a blender and blend until smooth. Let cool to room temperature, transfer to a jar and store in refrigerator for up to a month

  4. Enjoy serving your homemade blend at your next cookout!
