The door lock and strike kit is used on front loading machines to hold the door closed while the unit is running.
Failure Symptoms: When the door lock or strike is damaged or defective the door may not latch properly, preventing the door from locking. This could also prevent the unit from being able to start.
How to Test: The door lock and strike assembly can fail mechanically or electrically. To check if it a mechanical error inspect the lock and switch assembly for damage and see if it is latching properly. To check for an electrical error, use a multi-meter to test the switches for electrical continuity. If there is damage to the strike or no continuity to the switch, they should be replaced.
*Continuity is the presence of a complete path for current flow. A continuity test is a quick check to see if a circuit is open or closed. Only a closed, complete circuit (one that is switched ON) has continuity.
*Continuity testing should be attempted only when voltage is NOT present in the circuit being tested. Always unplug the device or turn off the main circuit breaker before attempting a continuity test. Ensure that all capacitors are safely discharged.
